Hear from our Students: An Interview with James Jacob
As the school year comes to an end, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the teachers who will be leaving us this summer and asked them to reflect on their time at St Clare’s.
How long have you been at St Clare’s?
I’ve taught at St Clare’s for three years.
What made you decide to become a teacher?
I absolutely love history and politics, and I love interacting with the next generation.
What has been your favourite memory during your time here?
I think it’s my school history trips to Belgium, where I got to spend a weekend with the kids every year, looking at World War I, but also getting to know them. It was fantastic.
What is the funniest moment you have experienced here?
I haven’t had a single day here, where I haven’t laughed. I can just tell you that every day at this place, one of you wonderful children has made me laugh and smile, and I’m so grateful for that.
What is something you ’ll miss about the students?
It’s one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made to leave this place, because you are some of the most remarkable people I’ve ever taught. And you fill me with a lot of hope for the next generation of this world. I’m leaving because I want to be at a school which I can send my very young children to. Many of you are a long way from home, you inspire me with your kindness, intelligence, your humour, and your absolute desire to make the world a better place. You can achieve it all.
If you had to describe your time here in three words, what would they be?
I'm going to do four. Never a dull moment.
Do you have any advice for current students?
You have one life. Fill it with everything you can. And never give up.
