Our boarding community is enriched by the diversity of our international students.
Most boarders share a room with someone from another country, helping them make friends and enhancing their international experience.
Each house has a House Parent, responsible for student welfare and support. Our dedicated team help students settle into life at St Clare’s and work with them to make the living environment feel like home, beginning with a fun and informative orientation weekend. Within their boarding house, students take part in house activities, social time and trips. These opportunities to spend time together help create a true ‘home away from home’.
Food
Our bright, spacious and recently upgraded dining hall provides a comfortable and relaxed space for students to eat and socialise. We provide breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, offering a wide range of delicious and nutritious meals, which promote a well-balanced diet. We cater for all dietary requirements.
Snacks and drinks are available all day at our café, The Globe, and our boarding houses have small kitchens for students to use. There are many cafes and restaurants providing a range of different cuisines within walking distance, both in Summertown and in Oxford city centre.
Life Beyond the Classroom
WEEKENDS
Trips range from cultural outings to places such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Blenheim Palace, and the beautiful Chilterns, to fun experiences at Thorpe Park. Pre-IB students enjoy a variety of trips with their House Parents, including highlight trips to Brighton and Bristol, and a festive visit to Waddeston Manor to see the Christmas lights. Weekends away are permitted under certain circumstances, dependent on factors such as the time of year, academic workload and individual progress. Permission from parents or guardians is required, and all requests are considered carefully to ensure that students are meeting their commitments at college. |
WEEKLY BOARDING
The College offers weekly boarding for a small number of students who return home to their families every weekend. Weekly boarders are welcome to stay at St Clare’s at the weekend to join specific trips and activities. Fees for weekly and full boarding are the same, and weekly boarding is only available to students living in England or Wales.
GUARDIANSHIP
We require all Pre-IB and IB Diploma students studying at St Clare’s under a Child Student Visa with parents and/or Legal Guardians overseas, regardless of their age, to have a nominated Educational Guardian in the UK. The Boarding Schools Association (BSA) and Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students (AEGIS) websites have a list of guardians who hold the BSA Certified Guardian certification which is an assurance of professional quality.
